This compact house was designed to respond to the narrow site in suburban Japan.

The interior accommodates its retired owner while also maximizes efficiency by maintaining separate spaces for living and socializing. The house is set to one side of the property allowing for an elongated private garden viewed from the genkan entrance.

The synthesis of both the traditional Japanese precedents and also the contemporary reality of its modern neighbors create a place which is simultaneously timeless and relevant to the present.
